RECEIVING and GIVING

This has been a week of receiving and giving. We are so thankful our vehicle made it to Haiti safe and sound. Getting supplies to Haiti is a challenge of it's own but we have worked through it. Thanks to Angela's father (Dean Boudreau) who prepared and pack the vehicle; we have received donations of clothes, shoes, toys, Days for Girls kits and lots more to give out to our community.

One of the most important items in the vehicle that came was a generator that can give power to the TOHH guesthouse and Community Water Tower. Our old generator was fixed many times and worked non-stop for over a year and was not putting out a strong enough power to fill our water tanks. For over 2 months we were not able to give out clean fresh water to our community. Thank God for people with giving hearts because our community no longer needs to travel 3-5 miles down to the river for dirty water. As of this week, TOHH's Water Tower is up and running giving out over 1,000 gallons of clean fresh water a day.

This week we also received the last 2 barrels of school supplies. We have supplies to not only give all our sponsored children but to our future sponsored children.

Inside the 1st shipment of barrels we had new clothes given by a generous donor from Worcester, MA. It has been so fun to give out these new clothes and see these children's faces light up! It is a rare thing for these children to receive clothes that no one else has worn. Look at all these beautiful children as they attended church in their new clothes.

Each week more children are being sponsored by compassionate, giving new sponsors. This week another TWO children have been sponsored - Michelson Carries and Mylove Exama. It is our joy to help set them up for school. God bless you all who have invested so much to help these children succeed in life!  Have a blessed week and remember to stay connected through social media.

School is in Session

Bonswa Tout Moun in creole means “Good Evening Everyone”

School has been going well for all our new students. Here are some preschoolers at Mission of Hope International.

Since school opened September 5th, we have had 3 new sponsored children to start school. This is now a total of 50 children sponsored through TOHH!!  In January of 2016, we set a goal to have 50 children sponsored by the end of 2016. We are so thankful to see this goal reached well before 2016 is over. We have 22 children currently on our website up for sponsorship and we are working on adding more children. Our community is thriving and we see the HOPE that is rising in the hearts of these Haitian families. Thank you to all our TOHH partners, it couldn’t be possible without you! It’s our joy to do what we do!
Many sponsors are willing to help in so many ways. Not only do they give to pay for their child to go to school but we have had sponsors contact us and ask how they can help out in other ways. This week we had a sponsor purchase a mattress and box spring to help give her child a good night sleep. Here is Lucienne who was sleeping on a wooden board each night and now thanks to her sponsor can sleep on a soft mattress each night! Having a good night sleep not only helps your body rest but makes you more alert and ready to learn. Thank you Michelle Overton!

A very BIG thank you to everyone who came out to the Christian Festival in Orange, MA. TOHH had a booth set up selling T-shirts, calendars and Haitian art. It was great to share about our projects and how people can get involved. Representing TOHH was Dean Boudreau, Cassandra Celemente and Jon and Janelle Vitello.

Every Saturday from the Haiti side we share information about a child that is in need of a sponsor. Meet a 15-year-old boy named Michelson! His nickname is Ledindon.

He has two sisters and five brothers! Michelson lives in the village of Icondo with his dad, one brother and two sisters. They live in a cement home with two rooms and two beds that they rent. Both his mother and father are unemployed. Each day, Michelson helps his family by carrying two buckets of water. This year, he hopes to continue his education going into eighth grade! He loves learning, and his favorite subject is science, especially biology. He also likes to play soccer, sing, and write poetry! When he grows up, he hopes to be an engineer! Michelson is a very smart boy, and now is a crucial time for him to continue his education. If you are interested in sponsoring Michelson today, follow this link: https://www.purecharity.com/michelson-carries or email tohhsponsorship@gmail.com! #childsponsorship #haiti#everychild

Every child matter to God and we have made it our mission to help these children in whatever way we can. Thank you for partnering with us to make the difference, to fight poverty and give the hope of Jesus through education.

Have a great week and God bless you all.

Preparations for School

The past two weeks have been very busy around here. We are so thankful to our TOHH Sponsors, because of them we had nearly 50 kids to get ready for school to start September 5th. TOHH helps to supply children with everything needed to have a successful school year!

The Wikipedia Encyclopedia states "Formal Education rates in Haiti are among the lowest in the Western Hemisphere.[3] Haiti's literacy rate of about 61% (64.3% for males and 57.3% for females) is below the 90% average literacy rate for Latin American and Caribbean countries.[1] The country faces shortages in educational supplies and qualified teachers. The rural population is less educated than the urban.[3] The 2010 Haiti earthquake exacerbated the already constrained parameters on Haiti's educational system by destroying infrastructure and displacing 50-90% of the students, depending on locale.
International private schools (run by CanadaFrance, or the United States) and church-run schools educate 90% of students.[3] Haiti has 15,200 primary schools, of which 90% are non-public and managed by communities, religious organizations or NGOs.[4] The enrollment rate for primary school is 88%.[2] Secondary schools enroll 20% of eligible-age children. Higher education is provided by universities and other public and private institutions."

This tells us that our job is vital in helping children in Haiti gain education and break the cycle of poverty. Our TOHH children attend NGO private church run schools. Take a look as to all the preparations that took place prior to the 1st day of school.

We are so thankful for Pastor Edon and his wife who made all our TOHH uniforms for almost 50 children. These are Mission of Hope International's school colors (Green and White) for primary school. Preschoolers wear brown and High Schoolers wear navy blue checkers. There is no catalog to order school uniforms, so this is a huge task for getting kids ready for school.

Gama's brother Flantorge took a full day shopping for shoes for each sponsored child.

  GOT SHOE'S?

The 4 barrels shipped from Boston came just in time with 40 new backpacks to hand out to our sponsored kids. So much work took place to get these barrels down to Haiti. Thank you to all those who donated, clothes, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies. Rebecca Miller from The Erving Church took up the task of organizing this "Build-A-Backpack" Program. We also had help from Laurice Fournier (Cassandra Clemente's mom!!) who volunteered to be a drop off spot in the Holden area. She then drove to meet up with Rebecca. We are thankful to get these barrels from Gama's cousin Jean Sainvil and another thank you to Angela's dad (Dean Boudreau) who went to go get the barrels, clean them out and also drive them to Boston.

Sunday, August 4th, we gave out school supplies to 47 children!!

Thank God for Pastor Edon who organized all the books so that each child received the books they need for their grade. He then also handed out all the uniforms to each child. This who day took a while but thankfully was very organized and everyone waited their turn. Praise be to God!

Jean Wilzer Rene received his backpack from Pastor Vic and Rebecca Miller and new school shoes!

Esther Edmond is happy to get her backpack, school supplies, uniform and shoes!
